Case of NCC Cadet with HFMD

Good Day Cadets,

I am writing to you inform you that one of our NCC cadet leader has been diagnosed with Hand Foot
Mouth Disease (HFMD).

He contracted the disease from a classmate who came to school with HFMD. As he was in school
on Friday for NCC training, there could be a possibility that the disease may have been spread.

As such, I would like you to check for signs/symptoms of HFMD. If you do observe these signs, please visit a doctor. If diagnosed with HFMD, stay at home till you recover completely and are well for school.

It is advisable for students who have contracted HFMD to see a doctor to get themselves certified that they are well before they come back to school, just to take additional precaution.

Here are some useful information for you:

How it is spread
HFMD is spread from person to person by direct contact with the nasal discharge, saliva, faeces and fluid from the rash of an infected person. Both adults and children can be affected, but young children below five years of age are particularly susceptible.
Signs & symptoms
A child with HFMD may suffer from some of the following symptoms:
§  fever
§  sore throat
§  ulcers in the throat, mouth and tongue
§  headache
§  rash with vesicles (small blisters 3-7 mm) on hands, feet and diaper area. The vesicles are typically on the palm side of the hands the sole side of the feet and very characteristic in appearance. The rash may also be present on the buttocks, arms and legs.
§  loss of appetite
§  vomiting and/or diarrhoea

I have also attached more details on HFMD from the Health Promotion Board (HPB) via this link. Alternatively, you can refer to this webpage from the HPB website for more details.

Please fall in after morning assembly at the Front Porch. The TOs will do a quick check to see if there any signs/symptoms of HFMD.

Thanks.

Regards,
SIR PHILIP
